Train by Michael Brantley

"I can tell you what didn't happen. I did not catch the train to go home. I did not get married, have children and live in a cul-de-sac. I did not have an affair with my secretary. I did not get the corner office. Or the salary that went with it. I did not have the beach house or the heart attack. I did not die in a sterile white room alone. Here's to the train I missed."

I read this on Short, Fast and Deadly and today it says more than it might on other days
